In this 3 weeks intensive course we'll take your startup, app or website idea from the idea stage to a mocked up prototype that you can validate with customers, clients and potential investors at the end of it.

Whilst the course will focus on the User Experience (UX) tools that will help you the most, each session will also provide you with what-you-need-to-know knowledge around strategic thinking, mobile strategy, and what's required to turn a great idea into a well thought through product.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Coming out of the course you'll have received a crash course in UX and have hands on experience of going through a full UX process from idea to prototype, all tailored to the fast pace needs of startups.

At the end of the course you will have learnt about and worked through:

  • Identified and defined your target audience and key user journeys for your website / app
  • Understanding the role of as well as having defined the landscape in which your website or app will live
  • Identified and documented the pages / views of your website / app
  • Defined and captured content and functionality for your pages / views
  • Turned your sketches, wireframes or mockups into a prototype
  • Tested and validated your website / app prototype with users and clients
  • Know how to proceed from here to turn it from a prototype into a launched website / app

In addition to this you'll also learn about:

  • The role and basics of content strategy
  • What you need to know about apps, responsive design and designing for multiple devices
  • The role of storytelling in design and for startups
  • Best practice in presentation skills
  • Have a go to list of tools, tips and tricks for startups

WHO IT'S FOR

This course is aimed at startup founders and those who have a business idea that they want to make a reality. It's also suitable for founders who already have started working on their business but lack knowledge of user experience design.

Since this course is aimed at maximising the value of UX techniques and tools for startups, this course is not suitable for those who want to work in UX. Please refer to our 'Introduction to UX' course which covers and equips you with both the UX tools and the soft skills for working as a UXer in agencies, client side or well-funded startups and SMEs.

All the UX Fika courses and classes are run by Anna, a London based Swedish UX designer, speaker and coach. Over the last 16 years Anna has worked client side for the likes of BBC, for startups (including running her own) and agencies on a large variety of brands and projects, from websites and apps to TV UIs. Both in a permanent and in a freelance capacity. She’s a regular speaker and was one of the first instructors for General Assembly in London where she taught close to 50 classes over 4 1/2 years related to designing for multiple devices. She's currently helping organisations and startups with UX related matters as well as finishing off a book for O'Reilly about Storytelling in Design.

Frequently Asked Questions


When does the course start and finish?
It is a completely self-paced online course - you decide when you start and when you finish. It's designed to be completed in 3 weeks, but you can take as much or as little time as you want.
How long do I have access to the course?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
How much time do I need to set aside?
The course itself is the equivalent of 6 full days. How much time you spend after that is up to you, but to fully get from idea to prototype, we advise that you set aside at least 4 hours for each main section of the course (e.g. prototyping) to continue and complete the work. Some sections will require more, others less. A rough estimate will be included for each part of the course.
What if I've enrolled for coaching sessions?
Great! We'll be in touch and book these in based on our combined schedules and the pace at which you want to take the course. How we use them is up to you. We can go deeper into one area, or we can use them to review what you've done, or a combination. Either way, we can't wait to work with you.
